Paths of Patience

There are seasons of our lives when we are waiting for prayers to be answered, doors to open, or paths to be made clear. Sometimes springs of emotion well up in us—doubt, frustration, anger, and jealousy. It’s in these moments that we have to be the most patient and remind ourselves of God’s unwavering faithfulness and goodness. Sometimes change comes that we aren’t ready for; sometimes it doesn’t come quickly enough.
I’m reminded of Joseph in Genesis 37, when he was sold by his brothers to be a slave. The fear, doubt, and hurt he must have felt when his own family—the people meant to love him and protect him—turned against him. Then we see in chapter 39 a great comfort: God was with Joseph wherever he went; He never left his side, even when he ended up in prison. As Joseph continues his journey, he waits two years in jail, wondering what was to become of him, perhaps asking himself, “What was God’s plan in all this?” Then he is brought before Pharaoh, and God uses him in a mighty way. Yet even then, Joseph still had to wait longer before he was finally reunited with his family.
Sometimes the waiting can seem agonizing, but God brings us comfort through His promises. We see this all through Scripture—His amazing love and care with Hannah as she waited for a child, with David in the wilderness, and with Jesus as He willingly gave His life for us, that we could share in the reconciliation and comfort of God.
So when we are full of doubt and fear, when we get tired of waiting, and when we think we can’t take any more, we take our rest in Jesus, who said,
"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
Matthew 11:28-29
He is the well that never runs dry, the bowl that never empties, and He gives us rest, peace, and comfort for our souls. When you're on those paths that call for patience, continue to trust in Him, and He will guide you through it. Even when things don't go your way or in your timing, His ways are better than our own.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6
When you find yourself in a season of waiting, choose to lean in rather than pull away. Open your Bible, remind your heart of His promises, and bring your doubts honestly before Him in prayer. Don’t allow discouragement to harden you—let it draw you closer to the One who is faithful in every season. Today, take one intentional step of trust, whether that’s surrendering a specific worry, speaking truth over your fears, or simply resting in His presence, and watch how God meets you there.
